Peace dawns after the week long violence between Russia and Georgia.

Moscow:There seems to be a dawn of Peace on the horizon after the weeklong violence between Russia and Georgia over South Ossetia.

Both the countries have agreed to a truce following sustained international pressure and in particular, the diplomatic efforts of French President Nicholas Sarkozy, who is also currently the president of the European Union.

Earlier Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had ordered a halt to military operations against Georgia and the Georgian President Saakashvili addressed a rally in Tbilisi announcing Georgia's refusal to surrender. But the stalemate seems to have been resolved. The conflict has uprooted nearly 1 lakh people according to the UN refugee agency

Moscow was also accused of ethnic cleansing by Saakashvili and saw greater international pressure to resolve the situation when British PM Gordon Brown called for peace.

However Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has denied such allegations. Moscow says Tbilisi has not kept up its promise but continues to bomb the disputed area of Ossetia. Meanwhile Georgian President Saakashvili has signed a cease-fire proposal prepared by EU and its continues to press for greater international intervention. The conflict over Oseetia has unsettled oil markets because Georgia hosts a key pipeline supplying the West.

The political players in the recently halted Ossetia war were scrambling for tactical advantages in ongoing ceasefire talks.

The de facto ceasefire held over its first night, with no violations reported by either side.
