KOTTAYAM: The Rubber Board authorities have announced that the Board has distributed Rs 2.73 crore for labourer welfare activities during 2011-12.The scheme has benefited 26,930 labourers in the organised and unorganised sectors.The components of the scheme include medical attendance, housing subsidy, and group life insurancecum- terminal benefits for labourers and educational stipend and merit award.The scheme also includes cash award for the children of the labourers who have major achievements in sports/games and arts.The scheme is intended to improve the basic amenities and working conditions of the rubber plantation workers.The amount spent for various components like medical attendance, housing subsidy, educational stipend, merit award and awards for exceptional achievements in sports/ games and arts include `24,552,059 and `2,721,119 for insurance schemes.A total of 6,828 beneficiaries have been enrolled in the group life insurancecum- terminal benef i t scheme that began last year.
