CHENANI: In an effort to quench the thirst of the 4.42-lakh people in the Ambattur municipality, the Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) will build 22 overhead tanks and lay water pipelines at a cost of Rs 268 crore by  November.Managing director of CMWSSB Dr K Gopal inspected the works which are part of the Rs 488.97-crore project to provide water supply as well as sewage network to its residents.  Ambattur is one of the local bodies soon to be merged with the city under the proposed expansion plan.A 489-km drinking water pipeline will also be laid to benefit the residents of Mogappair, Padi, Anna Nagar West, Athipattu, Oragadam, Kallikuppam, Pudur, Menambedu and Bhanu Nagar, apart from the 75,000 households in Ambattur area, a Metro Water spokesperson said.Meanwhile, the construction of 26 sewage treatment plants being carried out at a cost of Rs 220.97 crore, which will connect Ambattur with the city’s sewage network, is also under way.The spokesperson said the MD, after hearing the grievances of the residents of Sai Garden and TVS Colony, issued instructions to lay pipes in JJ Nagar in Ambattur.
