New Delhi: When an actor hasn't had a movie hit in over a couple of years, it becomes crucial for him to select roles in future cautiously, else he might find his professional life hit the skids soon. Shahid Kapoor may have been trying hard to experiment with his roles in the past, but none of his films registered in terms of critical acclaim and Box Office (BO) collection. Considering the fact that Shahid's past projects - 'Chance Pe Dance', 'Mausam', 'Teri Meri Kahaani' and 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero' - hit the doldrums, all that he needs now is luck which indeed plays a key role in the world of show business. And nothing better can happen to Shahid now than Prabhudeva's masala film 'R...Rajkumar' which if does well at the BO will revive his flagging career.
'R...Rajkumar' revolves around Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor), an aimless goon who works for drug baron Shivraj (Sonu Sood) and shows how his life changes when he meets Chanda (Sonakshi Sinha). And to let his love flourish, he has to ruin the drug cartel Shivraj is loyal to, which is managed by Ajit Taaka (Srihari), a Mafia don.
Like a typical Prabhudeva film, 'R...Rajkumar' offers a mix of action, humour, songs and romance, but is that enough to grab viewers' attention? Don't we see every actor combating a group of baddies who turn hostile at the slightest provocation in virtually every film? And isn't the idea of love changing the way an individual lives his/her life been a done-to-death concept in Bollywood? So what new does the film offer? What will help the film be a mass entertainer - a fantastic script, stellar performances or an artistic direction?
9:55 AM: Stay tuned for the tweet review of #RRajkumar
10:04 AM: #ShahidKapoor teams up with filmmaker Prabhudeva for the first time. Will #RRajkumar prove lucky for the actor?
10:17 AM: 15 minutes into the film and we know #RRajkumar is a typical #PrabhuDeva film.
10:23 AM: Flawless dance moves of #Prabhudeva #Shahidkapoor make gandibaat somewhat interesting. But the song's timing is flawed. #RRajkumar
10:28 AM: Uff, did #Shahidkapoor say that? Yes, he called #Sonakshi lollypop! And nobody is amused. #RRajkumar
10:37 AM: Only 2 things define desi goons - tael de (maalish session) and pael de. #RRajkumar
10:40 AM: Silent ho jaa varna mai violent ho jaunga. #RRajkumar
10:47 AM: Are we watching Phata Poster or #RRajkumar? Why is Shahid performing Dhattingnaach steps?
10:52 AM: Height, weight, color se pyaar nahi hota. Pyaar dil se hota hai. Too much gyaan. Isn't Pyar ki paathshala an apt title? #RRajkumar
11:01 AM: Sonakshi, who has often talked about her limitations, doesn't mind flashing flesh and showing her sensual side in #RRajkumar.
11:09 AM: #Sareekefall deserves all the adulation. Interesting lyrics and soothing music. #RRajkumar
11:11 AM: While the film's music is impressive, what's with its painfully loud background score? #RRajkumar
11:18 AM: Fake emotions, over-the-top action sequences and daft one-liners, yes that's what the film's first half offers. #RRajkumar.
11:38 AM: While Shahid's boyish charm is believable, his action hero makeover isn't that convincing. #RRajkumar
11:51 AM: #RRajkumar has a few fun moments. #ShahidKapoor enjoys smashing vicious baddies, but he should stick to action genre.
12:14 PM: #RRajkumar lacks everything - hard-hitting dialogues, emotional connect, logic and a convincing script.
12:21 PM: Item number might be considered as an essential formula for a film to be a hit but #RRajkumar proves if it is bad, it can ruin the film.
12:27 PM: Even as #RRajkumar heads to climax, we know what's in store. It is that predictable.
12:30 PM: As we said earlier, #RRajkumar is a typical #prabhudeva film - too much action, dance, humour. Will it get pyaar or maar at the box office?
12:33 PM: Thanks for being with us throughout the review of #RRajkumar
