The garden will be inaugurated by Chief Secretary K Jayakumar on Monday at 9.30 am. The new rose garden at the C Kesavan traffic island is a joint venture of Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Limited (TRDCL) and Kerala Rose Society. The plants would include those brought from Bangalore as well as budded roses. “Initially, we will be displaying 150 varieties of potted plants at the island. We have planned to change them every week so that a total of 750 varieties may mark their appearance in the garden alternately. Along with beautification, we also aim at promoting rose cultivation through this venture,” says K P Krishna Kumar, honorary secretary of Kerala Rose Society. A voluntary initiative of TRDCL, the garden would be maintained by Rose Society and TRDCL together. The plants lined up on concrete platforms would ensure better visibility. According to TRDCL project director Anil Kumar Pandala, “it is with a view to provide uniqueness to the place that we thought of setting up a rose garden.
