Twenty-five yearold Priyadarshini Vinayagam, was arrested on Friday on charges of using a similar modus operandi and cheating several men to the tune of Rs 10 lakh. Interestingly, the profile of the woman bore a striking similarity to the fictitious Robin Hood fleecing the rich and funding poor students.A resident of Mettupalayam in Otteri, she is a B Com correspondence student, said crime inspector N Raveendran. He said Priyadarshini would pick up random numbers and leave 'missed calls'. "To the men who returned her calls, she posed as a rich man's daughter with good-looking sisters," as the officer put it.

"Over several calls, she befriended them," he added. If her potential targets were affluent men, she would continue corresponding with them over phone. "If not, she dropped them like hot potato," said the inspector.

However, she had another side to her. If the callers turned out to be poor students, she would lend a helping hand by paying their fees. "By doing so, she claimed that she was atoning for her sin of cheating other men," the police officer said.

He then lodged a plaint against her at the Otteri police station. A special team nabbed her at Jamalia Nagar on Friday. She has been lodged at the Puzhal prison.
