BANGALORE: Bangalore Traffic Police will observe ‘Road Safety Week’ from January 7. An exhibition on the theme of road safety will be put up at Sullivan Ground in the city where as many as 30 departments including police, BMTC and BBMP will participate. Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic and Internal Security) M A Saleem said that five important issues will be taken up this year. They are: over-speeding, drunken driving, driving without helmet, using mobile phones while driving and not wearing seat belts. As part of celebration, the department will hold a rally of students, road safety classes for autorickshaw drivers and BMTC drivers and drawing and painting competition for kids. An awareness campaign will be held for drivers of four-wheelers who drive without wearing the seat belts. A panel of judges will select the best drawing and painting and prizes will be distributed on valedictory function, which will be held on January 13.Saleem said a recent survey conducted by a doctor from NIMHANS showed that most deaths due to two wheeler accidents is due to use of non-ISI brand helmets. An awareness drive will be held to create awareness on quality helmets.
