Retrenchment of workers draws DMK flak

PUDUCHERRY: The local unit of the DMK has flayed the AINRC government led by N Rangasamy for retrenching workers engaged by the previous government.In a statement, DMK convenor R V Janakiraman said the government should not indulge in vengeance as such terminations might encourage the now unemployed youth towards crime and violence. Already, the UT was experiencing two to three murders a day and this could go up, he warned.Even Rangasamy had engaged such temporary workers who had been regularised by the Vaithilingam government, he said.The focus should be on running the government effectively by assigning portfolios, expanding the cabinet, holding election for the speaker, preparing for the budget session and the Lieutenant Governor’s address. Also, the government would do well to create employment opportunities and provide jobs, he said.
