BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested two persons, including a woman, in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of a girl from Salia Sahi slums. A team arrested Arun Nayak and Manasi Sahu from Nayagarh, police said. Nayak is an auto-rickshaw driver while Manasi allegedly aided the abduction. The police said more arrests would follow if investigation reveals complicity of more people in the incident. In November last year, the girl was allegedly kidnapped by the some anti-socials. Her brother Sashikant Biswal lodged a ‘missing persons’ complaint with Mahila Police on November 20. The family, which later traced the girl, alleged that she had been subjected to sexual assault. When the matter came to light, political parties targeted the police for its alleged inaction. The Mahila Congress activists had laid siege to the police station on Wednesday demanding action against the culprits as well as the police officials for dereliction of duty. The police had promised action in the matter saying that the missing person case will be changed as new facts and evidence emerge.‘LEWD’ SMSes PROVE COSTLY: Locals near Sahid Nagar gave a good thrashing to a youth who allegedly was sending obnoxious SMSes to a girl. Police too joined the action. The accused, police said, had been harassing the girl for the last two months. A complaint was lodged with Mancheswar Police and both parties had reached a compromise. However, the youth apparently did not relent. On Thursday, he was confronted by the relatives of the girl. Later, the locals beat him black and blue and handed him over to the police. The youth reportedly sustained injuries.
