"To decongest the city a 100-km long ring road is to be constructed in Lucknow. Ministry of road transport and highways has given clearance for it and the project will cost more than Rs 3,000 crore," Singh, Member of Parliament from Lucknow, said while addressing a programme in Lucknow.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in a letter to Singh on Monday said, "My ministry has approved the proposal of construction of 100-km long Lucknow ring road costing more than Rs 3,000 crore to decongest growing capital of state."

"Ministry has directed NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) to start the process of preparing DPR (Detailed Project Report) on priority. The process of land acquisition for the proposed ring road and other pre construction activities like environment clearances etc shall begin immediately after the completion of DPR", the letter said.

"I have directed senior officers to closely monitor this important project for speedy land acquisition and

Appreciating the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh for its positive response to developmental works, the Union minister hoped Samajwadi Party would adopt similar approach for the ring road project.
