Jaipur: A group of students, staging a sit-in over the transfer of a teacher from their school, set afire a police outpost and three parked vehicles in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district on Thursday after police tried to disperse the protestors, a police official said.

"Two days ago, a Hindi language teacher, Ashok Kumar, had been transferred to Bikaner from a school in a village near Buhana town in Jhunjhunu. The students were demanding the teacher be reinstated and held protest on Wednesday and Thursday," the police official said.

The protestors had been disrupting classes at the school and "when police tried to disperse them, they began pelting stones on policemen," the official said.

The students then marched to the local police outpost and set a portion of it on fire.

"Two motorcycles and a car belonging to a district administration official parked in the complex were also torched by the students. Some furniture too was gutted in the fire," the official said.

Later, the fire was brought under control and heavy police force was deployed in the village.
