KOLLAM: Kollam East Police on Monday arrested three persons suspected to be the sub-agents of a major racket operating to commit fraud in connection with railway recruitment here. Sherin, 29 of Shirley Bhavan, Vilanthara Valiyapadam, West Kallada; Biju, 35, Vattavila Padinjattathil, Vilanthara, Valiyapadam, West Kallada; Sathyadas, 33, Kodanvila, Sooranad North, were the arrested. Acting on a tip-off to Kollam Assistant Commissioner of Police B Krishna Kumar, a police team led by ASP Shibu and Kollam East Circle Inspector arrested the gang. Krishna Kumar said that Youth Congress Kollam Lok Sabha Mandalam president M Sanjeev Kumar provided the information to him about the racket conducting ‘interview’ at a lodge in the city to recruit people for RPF and Southern Railway. The application forms for various posts in the Southern Railway had been seized from them. ACP Krishna Kumar said that one Ramachandran, hailing from Tiruvalla, was the main agent in the operation led by a retired Army officer from Mangalore.“The Mangalore-based racket had networks across the state. The arrested people said that they were charging Rs 3 lakh for clerical posts and Rs 6 lakh for Sub-Inspector posts in the RPF and were collecting Rs 10,000 as advance,” Krishna Kumar said and added that the police were hopeful of nabbing the kingpin of the racket in the coming days.
