Guangzhou: Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Harminder Singh finished a disappointing sixth in the men's 20km race walk event on the opening day of athletics competitions in the Asian Games here on Sunday.
Harminder clocked a below-par 1:26:33 to finish sixth. He had clocked 1:23:28 in the Commonwealth Games last month.
Another Indian in the fray, Baljinder Singh finished seventh with an effort of 1:28:06.
Chinese athletes bagged both the gold and the silver with Wang Ho winning the event at 1:20:50 ahead of compatriot Chu Yafei who clocked 1:21:57.
The bronze went to Kim Hyunsub of South Korea who clocked 1:22:47. Kim had won the silver in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha.
In men's high jump event, national record holder Hari Shankar Roy qualified for the final while compatriot Nikhil Chittarasu fell by the wayside.
Both Roy and Chittarasu failed to clear the 2.15m mark but the former qualified for the final round as one of the 12 best performers after clearing the marks of 2.0m, 2.05m and 2.10m in first attempts.
