New Delhi: Targetting the emerging markets like China, US-based chip-maker Qualcomm has launched a mobile phone processor which comes integrated with 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution) technology.
Snapdragon 410 is designed for phones priced at USD 150 or less, targeting the original equipment makers (OEMs) in China.
"...when we talked about the Chinese market, I guess the point really was that it meant for the OEMs in China who make these phones, now they will sell these phones both in India and other countries...the sales of the phones will be global," Qualcomm Technologies Senior Vice President (Product
Management) Raj Talluri said in a conference call.
The Snapdragon 410 processor is anticipated to begin sampling in the first half of 2014 and expected to be in commercial devices in the second half of 2014.
Asked at what price LTE tablets and samartphones can be available in India in 2014, Talluri said it depends not just on the processor but on cost of other things like camera, memory and display.
He, however, said, "...we believe that using snapdragon 410 they will be able to deliver in a sub USD 150 phone."
