In Puducherry of Tamil Nadu, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of two-wheelers on the roads daily. This rise has led to a situation where a significant number of people are not following traffic regulations. One of the major issues arising from this negligence is the frequent lack of helmet use by two-wheeler riders. This oversight has resulted in a high incidence of accidents, which often lead to severe injuries and fatalities.
To combat this problem and raise awareness about the importance of wearing helmets, the Puducherry Traffic Police Department has been actively conducting various awareness programs. These initiatives are aimed at educating the public about the critical safety measures that can help prevent accidents and save lives.
In line with these efforts, a special awareness camp was organised to highlight the necessity of wearing helmets. This camp was held at the Ariyankuppam signal and was a collaborative effort between the Indian Red Cross Society and the Puducherry Traffic Police Department. The event saw the participation of several key figures, including Traffic Police Senior Inspector Praveen Kumar Tripathi, Red Cross Society Chairman Lakshmipathi, and Executive Committee Member Ayyanar.
During the camp, riders who were observed wearing helmets were recognised and rewarded with gifts provided by the Indian Red Cross Society. These gifts included silver-plated plates and tumblers, intended to encourage and motivate more people to adhere to safety practices. Additionally, pamphlets containing information about the importance of wearing helmets were distributed to further spread awareness among the public. Through these combined efforts, the organisers hope to instil a stronger sense of responsibility among two-wheeler riders regarding helmet use and ultimately reduce the number of traffic accidents and fatalities in Puducherry. The ultimate aim is to create a safer riding environment and contribute to a decline in road traffic injuries and deaths, thereby improving overall road safety in the region.
