Protestors attack bus in J-K, baby dies
The 11-day-old ailing baby was being taken to hospital in a mini-bus.

Srinagar: An 11-day-old ailing baby, who was being taken to hospital in a mini-bus, died on when protesters stopped the vehicle and roughed up its passengers in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday as part of a demonstration against recent arrest of youth.

The baby boy's four-year-old brother was also injured in when he fell to the ground from the lap of his grand-father after the vehicle was attacked and passengers beaten up.

The mini-bus, whose passengers included the family of the infant, was stopped by a group of people near Stadium Colony, some 55-km from Srinagar, police said.

The pleas of the family members to the protesters to allow them to proceed to the hospital in Sopore fell on deaf ears, police said.

The baby boy died apparently due to suffocation, police said. The baby was being carried by his mother under her pheran (loose Kashmiri gown).

The clashes between demonstrators and security forces started not only Baramullah but also in Maisuma and adjoining areas in Srinagar and Sopore towns of north Kashmir.
