THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishath(KSSP) has demanded Health Minister Adoor Prakash to stop the move to bring back private practice of doctors in the state. The KSSP alleged that the Minister, along with a few ‘greedy doctors’ in the state, were conspiring to bring back a system that had been shelved after widespread discussions. The KSSP said that the private practice was banned in the state after detailed studies and discussions by two government-appointed committees. This was to improve the standards of medical education in the state and to check the domination of money over service in the treatment sector. The KSSP also alleged that the Health Minister had not made any serious move to initiate any study or discussion to analyse the changes in the Health Sector after the private practice ban. Even now, there are doctors in the medical college who are indulging in private practice both covertly and overtly it said. The KSSP alleged that it was with the help of these doctors that the Minister was making a move to bring back private practice. The Parishat has asked the Minister to immediately backtrack from such moves.
