Pregnant at 40, mother wanted to kill me before birth, says Goa Governor Mridula Sinha
On August 25, 2014, she was appointed as Governor of Goa.

Varanasi: In a stunning revelation, Goa governor Mridula Sinha on Saturday said her mother wanted to kill her even before she was born because she got pregnant at the age of 40.

While addressing the inaugural session of Swadeshi Mela hosted by Swadeshi Jagran Manch with the theme of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' at cultural complex in Varanasi, she said, "When I hear Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak about saving the girl child, I recall how my father saved my life. My mother had consumed some medicine after she was pregnant when she was 40 and wanted an abortion."

"It was my father who took my mother to city and ensured my safe birth," she added.

She claimed that her father not only saved her life but also fought age old traditions (against women) in village to ensure her education.

Mridula is a renowned writer in Hindi Literature, politician and worked for the revival of folk songs in India

She was born on November 27, 1942 in the village of Chhapra Dharampur Yadu in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar state in India.

Her father was Babu Chhabile Singh and her mother was Anupa Devi. She attended the local school in Chhapra and later studied at Balika Vidyapeeth, a residential school for girls in Lakhisarai district.

She was until August 2014 a member of the national executive of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During the BJP's campaign for 2014 general elections, she was in-charge of the BJP Mahila Morcha.

On August 25, 2014, she was appointed as Governor of Goa.
