Los Angeles: A dangerous drug commonly used for surgical anaesthesia was found at Michael Jackson's home after his death, a website has claimed.
The drug Propofol, which is used to put people under anaesthesia before surgery, was found at Jackson's home, TMZ.com reported quoting unnamed sources.
The website described the drug as an "extremely powerful drug that is only available to medical personnel".
"There is no conceivable way this drug can be properly prescribed for home use," it said quoting source.
The powerful drug can only be administered with an IV and it burns. Lidocaine is used to reduce the pain associated with the Propofol injection and Lidocaine was found near Jackson's body at the time of his death, the website said.
If the medicine is taken in combination with narcotic painkillers, one of the major side effects can be cardiac arrest and Propofol is so powerful that it can stop someone's heart on its own.
Jackson died on Thursday after a suspected cardiac arrest. Though the cause of his death will be determined only after the toxicology reports are out, the role of prescription drugs has been widely attributed to his end.
A former nurse of the pop star has also come out claiming that Jackson begged her for the drug Diprivan, the brand name for Propofol.
Cherilyn Lee, a registered nurse, who worked for Jackson three months before his death, claimed that the singer suffered from severe bouts of insomnia and begged her to get the drug. "I told him this medication is not safe," Lee told CNN in an interview.
"He said, 'I just want to get some sleep. You don't understand. I just want to be able to be knocked out and go to sleep."
"I told him, and it is so painful that I actually felt it in my whole spirit, 'If you take that you might not wake up," she had told Jackson.
