BJP MLA Shyam Deo Roy Chaudhary, who is on an indefinite fast demanding 24-hour power supply in Varanasi, will hold talks with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on the issue.
75-year-old Chaudhary, a seven-time MLA from Varanasi South, began his fast on May 27, demanding round-the-clock power supply to Varanasi, which he said was facing unscheduled long power cuts since Prime Minister Narendra Modi won Lok Sabha election from here.
On a request of District Magistrate of Varanasi Pranjal Yadav, he agreed to meet Yadav in Lucknow to discuss the issue.
In view of Chaudhary's deteriorating health, the DM today urged him to meet the CM to resolve the issue and end his fast.
"A meeting with CM has been arranged by Varanasi DM in the presence of officials of the power corporation," Chaudhary said.
"Only after the talk with CM, a decision will be taken on ending the fast," he said.
Chaudhary said he would go to Lucknow from Varanasi by road accompanied by a team of doctors.
His supporters, however, will continue with their dharna here, BJP media co-incharge Ankur Malhotra said.
On Saturday, Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal too had urged Chaudhary to end his fast.
