JANTLI-SHIRUR(GADAG): Siddhalinga Swamiji of Tontadarya mutt of Gadag is the new face of the agitation against the takeover of land by the proposed POSCO steel plant at Halligudi.The seer launched a movement against the land acquisition process by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board for South Korean giant POSCO on Tuesday at Jantli-Shirur village in Mundargi taluk.The agitation got a boost and hundreds of farmers took oath in front of the pontiff. Siddhalinga Swamiji made a bold and provocative speech to the farmers. “We are answerable to our next generation. We should fight for our existence as a one point agenda,” he said. Swamiji discussed with the farmers and asked them why should they should give up their land. “We will agitate in front of our MLA’s house and ask why we should give up our fertile land. As public representatives, it is their duty to protect our land,” the swamiji explained.“I will travel across all villages where land will be acquired. I will request the farmers not to entertain the real estate agents who are joining hands with steel companies and government officials. I will not sleep till the land acquisition process is called off,” the swamiji promised.The swamiji sang moving folk songs. He announced that on July 6, he would visit Halligudi village where the KIADB is acquiring 3,282 acres. CPI state secretary Siddanagouda Patil was also present.
