ANGUL: Armed police on Monday brought down dozens of houses to the ground in Tamrit Colony as part of an eviction drive. About 200 Scheduled Caste people, who inhabit the colony and work as daily wagers, have been rendered homeless in peak winter. The administration’s action in demolishing their houses without providing an alternative shelter has been resented by these families who would now have to spend cold nights under the open sky. They have appealed to the government for shelter. The local administration officials served notices to them to vacate the plots for a bus stand planned on that place, the evicted families informed. Angul Collector Siba Prasad Mishra admitted that no alternative arrangement has been made for the evicted people to live.
