TRIPUNITHURA: The investigation into the four-year-old gold ‘makutam’ missing case at the Sree Poornathrayeesa temple has reached nowhere as the police have no leads. The case was filed in 2008, when the gold ‘makutam’ weighing 954 gm (around 120 sovereign) went missing from the Swarna Kolam of the temple. It was found that the gold ‘makutam’ was replaced with a fake ‘makutam’.Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police Bijo Alexander, who kick-started the investigations back in 2008, said, “There are no records of the people who were handling the ‘makutam’ during the time it went missing. Even, some of the temple records are missing.”As of now, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Special Investigation Support Team (SIST), G Bhaskaran is carrying out the investigations. According to him, the case cannot be taken forward until they get a concrete evidence. Also, the Devaswom Vigilance Officer who was appointed to conduct a departmental inquiry in the case met a dead end. However, some of the members of royal family associated with the temple said that the change of the investigation officer had slowed down the investigation process. They said they suspect the involvement of highly-placed officials to save the culprits.
