Police and the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) ultras on Wednesday exchanged fire in the jungles of Khunti district even as the police claimed a couple of extremists may have been wounded in the encounter.
"The encounter began at 5 pm and lasted for about an hour, during which the police fired sixty rounds and the PLFI ultras fired about thirty bullets," deputy Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh told reporters here. The ultras retreated deeper into the Kedali forests and during search operation blood stains were seen, pointing to gunshot wounds to a couple of the extremists.
A rifle, 11 bullets and some other things were recovered from the encounter spot, Singh added.
