TIRUNELVELI: People Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) on Tuesday invited the 15-member national committee to come and meet the people to allay their fears about the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant.Addressing reporters after their meeting with the national committee, PMANE representative M Pushparayan said, “We asked them to come and meet the people face-to-face to allay their fears.” The national panel was asked to approach the issue with conscience and consider people’s welfare as the key objective. PMANE members said they were not against development, but said it should be sustainable keeping the welfare of the people in mind.“We have submitted our memorandum seeking answers and documents from Department of Atomic Energy as well as Centre and we did not seek any explanation from the committee,” Pushparayan said. The movement was ready for the next level of talks, but was waiting for the answers to the questions. Till then the agitation at Idinthakarai will continue, he stressed. He said the expert committee heard them patiently. “We really appreciate the committee for approaching it with such a positive attitude,” Pushparayan said. The movement demanded complete halt of all the works in KKNPP as stated in the State Cabinet resolution.
