PM advisor hails Annas movement

Anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare’s decision to join politics may have evoked criticism from different quarters but Prime Minister’s advisor for National Skill Development Council and vice-chairman of Tata Consultancy Services S Ramadorai gives him credit for keeping the fight against corruption alive.

“If it was not for Anna Hazare, we would accept corruption as fait accompli,” said Ramadorai while addressing the 176th Annual General Meeting of Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) here.

“While I may not endorse his methodologies, I give him credit for keeping the issue alive, reigning in support from citizens and getting the government to act,” he said. Like the pressure group in the form of Team Anna, MCCI must be a pressure group on government in enabling the right policies, whether it is in case of starting a business or promoting growth of existing industrial zones and clusters, he said.

Sustainable action plan

Tamil Nadu can become a role model for other states by adopting a ‘sustainable action plan’ which will measure ecological performance and translate it into economic and social terms, Ramadorai said. “By establishing targets and benchmarks, TN can create a score card on the performance,’’ he said.
