ALUVA: In a major haul of pirated CDs on Tuesday, the Shadow Police led by Special Branch DySP A Anilkumar seized thousands of CDs of unreleased and latest films, and arrested six persons.Acting on a tipoff, the police raided the selling points and arrested six dealers. More than 5,000 CDs were seized from them. The CDs include new films like Janapriyan, Seniors, Shaitan, Ready, Urumi, Gadhama, Singam, etc. Pornographic CDs were also seized.Sathar of Manakapady, Ershad of Pukkattupady, Noufal of Perumbavoor, Rahul of Kodikuthimala, Babukuttan of Kombara and Suresh of Nenmara are the arrested. They belong to an interstate racket.Cases have been registered against them under various Acts, including the Copyright Act. Anilkumar said that the seized CDs were brought from Thiruvananthapuram Bheemapally area. He said that the modus operandi of the accused was that the dealers remit the cost of the CDs in specific accounts in some banks as directed by the main suppliers. Once the amount was remitted in the banks, the packet containing the CDs would reach the dealers.The CDs, especially the pornographic ones, were being sold on the premises of schools and colleges. Students were the main customers of such CDs, the DySP said. Meanwhile, the police raided a book stall near the municipal private bus stand and seized 113 pornographic books. Babu, 46, of Kulangara, Aluva, was arrested in this connection and the shop was sealed. A case was registered, but later the accused was released on bail.
