A photo-studio owner has been arrested for allegedly propagating Maoist ideology in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police said Sunday.

Kulwardhan Prasad (29), who used to run Moeet photo

studio near old bus stand in Bijapur town, was allegedly helping the rebels to circulate anti-government messages and pro-Maoist ideologies, a senior police official said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of local police raided the shop of the accused on Saturday afternoon and later nabbed him, he said.

"A laptop was also recovered from his possession which has enough evidence against him," he said. While reviewing the contents of the laptop, publicity material of outlawed CPI(Maoist) and Chetna Natya Mandal – a frontal outfit of Naxals - was found.

The publicity stuff included audio-visual presentations, Naxal literature, song and dance featuring message of the ultras' movement, he said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kulwardhan was allegedly downloading the pro-Maoist content on mobile handsets of people in the region, thereby helping ultras to propagate anti-state messages, the official said.

Further investigation may reveal more crucial information in this connection, the official said.

The accused was booked under sections of Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act-2005, he said, adding that the accused was produced in a local court of Bijapur which sent him to two-day police remand.
