Cannes: Indian director Vasan Bala's debut feature film 'Peddlers' has been selected to represent India at the 51st edition of Cannes Critics' Week, a parallel section of the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival.
'Peddlers', starring Gulshan Devaiah, Kriti Malhotra and Nishikant Kamat, will be showcased alongside six other films from countries like Spain, France, Argentina and Germany.
'Peddlers' talks about Mumbai, a lady on a mission, a man living a lie and an aimless drifter. They collide. Some collisions are of consequence, some not, either ways the city moves on, according to Cannes Critcs Week official website semainedelacritique.com
The film, produced by Guneet Monga of Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt. Ltd., will compete for the prestigious Camera d'Or at the 2012 festival, the 65th edition of the cinematic jamboree.
"Sinking in thanks so much team...reminds me I worked with the best film in the world," Bala tweeted after the lineup was announced.
Bala had assisted filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in 'Dev D'. He was also an associate director in Michael Winterbottom's 'Trishna', starring Freida Pinto.
Kashyap has congratulated his protege.
"Congratulate @Vasan_bala for his film selection at cannes critics week.. #peddlers," tweeted Kashyap.
"For the world that doesn't know who Vasan_bala is, he is the man on the bicycle in 'No One Killed Jessica' who gets chased and beaten by Jessica for teasing Vidya Balan," he added.
Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur' is also selected to be showcased at Cannes Film Festival.
