TIRUMALA: A one-and-half year old female panther cub was killed in a road accident on the first down ghat road from Tirumala to Tirupati in the early hours of Thursday. The accident is suspected to have happened when a heavy vehicle, most likely an RTC bus, hit the animal while it was crossing the road.The carcass was dragged away from the road by the vehicle driver and left in the bushes by the road side.When pilgrims passing through the area saw the dead body of the panther, they alerted the media who in turn alerted TTD officials.On coming to know of the incident, Tirupati Wild Life Management circle officials led by its CCF Chalapathi Rao, went to the spot to inspect.The body of the panther was shifted from the place by SV Zoo park officials and an autopsy was performed later by the veterinarian at SV Veterinary University.CCF has directed officials to probe the exact cause of the panther’s death.The incident did not affect the vehicular traffic on the ghat road.
