A Pakistani army general has been appointed as the Military Advisor for UN peacekeeping operations.
Lt Gen Maqsood Ahmed was appointed to the post by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday and replaces Senegal's Lt Gen Babacar Gaye whose tour of duty ended on July 8. Ahmed recently completed his duties as a Corps Commander in the Pakistan Army, an appointment that he had held since February 2013. He has held a number of senior appointments, including serving as an Infantry Commander.
His military appointments comprised a combination of command and staff appointments and include a United Nations peacekeeping tour of duty in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2005-2006, a UN statement said.
