Islamabad/New Delhi: Days after India's tough talk and foreign secretary level talks put on hold, Pakistan on Monday conducted raids in connection with the Pathankot terror attacks. The raids were reportedly conducted in Jhelum and Sialkot.
According to reports, some people were even detained for questioning.
Sources in Pakistan said that they were acting on evidence provided by India. They, however, added that the evidence furnished by India were not sufficient to make any arrests.
Meanwhile, reports said that the raids were carried out in Gujranwala, Jhelum and Bahawalpur districts and an unspecified number of people were arrested.
The arrests led Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to order a Joint Investigation Team of IB, Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Federal Investigation Agency and Police to thoroughly probe the Pathankot attack links to Pakistan.
Sharif has already said that a transparent investigation will be made and those involved will not be spared.
India has provided telephone number in Pakistan contacted by the airbase attackers and given other inputs while asking Islamabad to take punitive actions against the handlers and possible mastermind.
In a pre-dawn attack on January 2, a group of heavily- armed Pakistani terrorists, suspected to be belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit, struck at the Air Force base in Pathankot.
Indian intelligence reports suggested that groups and people in Pakistan planned and executed the strike. India has provided "specific and actionable information in this regard" to Pakistan.
