UN takes note of the move to get two Karachi addresses, as possible hideouts of Dawood, removed from Interpol list.

New Delhi: Pakistan has been caught on the wrong foot in its effort to shield Dawood Ibrahim.

A shrewd move to get the two Karachi addresses, as possible hideouts of the underworld don, removed from the Interpol list has not gone un-noticed.

The UN has promptly taken up the matter with the Interpol as both the Karachi addresses of Dawood were part of Interpol-UN Security Council in 'Special Notice' issued in April last year.

Under the Special Notice, no Interpol member country is expected to allow travel of the listed persons within its territory and let their financial transactions take place in the country.

Since this was the first ever disclosure of Dawood's Pakistan address, the issue has embarrassed Pakistan, often called the breeding ground of terrorism.

With the US also designating Dawood a global terrorist, Islamabad became even more anxious to erase the embarrassing link.

Pakistan vigorously lobbied the Interpol headquarters at Lyon, France, during June-July 2006, asking it to strike off the don's Karachi addresses from the Special Notice.

Due to the sustain efforts, the addresses were almost deleted from the list despite the presence of solid evidence about Dawood's presence in Karachi.

It'll be interesting to know how Pakistani authorities got so close to erase the D-link from the country.

What's your reaction?
