New Delhi: Ahead of the SAARC summit, Afghan President Hamid Karzai accused Pakistan of sheltering Taliban chief Mullah Omar.
In an interview published on Sunday in the New York Times, Karzai accused Pakistani intelligence of providing sanctuary to Mullah Omar in Quetta, claiming he had solid information on the issue.
He blamed the resurgence of violence on Islamabad and said infiltration from across the border by Taliban insurgents could be stopped if Pakistan cooperated.
Reacting to Karzai's allegations, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri said, “Mullah Omar is not a non-entity and wherever he is it would not be that easy to hide. He is not in Pakistan, he is in Afghanistan.”
Afghanistan will be formally admitted into SAARC on Tuesday like Sri Lanka. It is expected to demand a strong response from SAARC on terrorism.
