SALEM: Eight students from Kerala studying at Pavai Engineering College, Rasipuram were admitted to Salem GH on Saturday with injuries allegedly inflicted by paid goons. The students alleged that upon the instructions of the college management, the hospital treated them as out-patients without taking them as in-patients.The students said the warden of the college hostel had been at loggerheads with them over several issues and they questioned his misdeeds. The warden allegedly engaged rowdies from outside to attack the students hailing from Kerala who questioned him.On saturday, a gang entered the college hostel and allegedly attacked the students from Kerala with weapons. Over sixty students in the hostel including many from other states were injured in the attack.A group of eight students from Kerala who were injured went to the Salem GH for treatment. When the hospital authorities were preparing to admit the seriously injured students, the college authorities allegedly requested the GH not to admit them.The college later arranged to transport the students to their homes in Kerala. None were available for comment. No case was booked by the police in Namakkal district till Saturday night.
