New Delhi: Virtual friendship had to take a backseat on Friday with Orkut flashing an "under construction" message even as its members unsuccessfully tried to login.
The web portal, which literally brought everyone with Internet access within the frame of a computer screen, kept people apart due to its reported construction work.
Sushmita Dutta, a Mumbai based public relation officer, was clearly disappointed with the innumerable number of failed attempts she devoted to login to her internet staple throughout the day.
"It seems my life has suddenly come to a standstill. My networking is simply cut off and I could not wish my friend a happy birthday who is in South Korea right now," said an upset Dutta.
For Sadhan Mahapatra from Bangalore, the response was no different. "I don't even know how I pass my long hours in office normally once I login into Orkut. Today, the day was unending really," he said.
Even for Pampi Das, a mass communication expert in Guwahati, Friday was a boring one. She explains neatly with a one-liner: "Life without Orkut is impossible. Friends were far today."
Dimpy Kalita, who is doing her internship at a public relations firm in the national capital, realised the importance of Orkut in her life in an unexpected manner. "Life without Orkut is like a car without wheels," she aptly remarked.
