CPM state secretariat meeting here on Thursday criticised Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan for putting the party on the defensive by repeatedly defying party directives.
Leaders of the official faction pointed out that VS had once again violated the party discipline by venturing to visit Koodankulam to express solidarity with the agitation against the nuclear plant. The Tamil Nadu Police had stopped him at the state border. Party central leadership had forbidden the visit as the Tamil Nadu unit of the party was not in favour of the agitation. CPM had also taken a stand that opposing the plant would not be in the interest of the country, they said. The official faction members insisted that the issue should be taken up with the party central committee.
