New Delhi: India's discarded striker Gagan Ajit Singh joined the criticism of the Indian Hockey Federation's fallacies in selection procedures leading to the team's increasing debacle over the last year, and urged the IHF to own up to their mistakes.

"Why do we blame only the coach and players. As the selectors claim credit for the team's good show, they should also take responsibility for the side's poor show," Gagan Ajit said in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

The Indian Hockey Federation's Greg Chappell-esque rotation policy has reaped in more spiteful responses and less rewards as India have struggled to get their act together at any major hockey competition this year. And Gagan Ajit, at the receiving end of it himself, couldn't agree more.

Fellow striker and expert drag-flicker Jugraj Singh, who was also present to promote the Premier Hockey League at the event on Tuesday, too, said that he had been fit for quite some time but was never called up. Jugraj was seriously injured in an accident a few years ago.

"I have at least ten years of hockey left in me. I think I am fully fit for international matches, but if I am not given a chance how can I assess and improve upon my weak areas?" he quipped.

Kanwalpreet Singh, yet another India discard, was also in no mood to mince words. "Players need confidence. If there will be no stability in the team, you can't give results overnight," he said.

Kanwalpreet said the hockey team of 2001-02 comprised of many players who had played together from the junior level, which helped them understand each other better.

Also pointing out the lack of infrastructure in the country for budding hockey players, Jugraj said a pool of players should be raised to meet any exigency.
