Bastar: The IAS Association has criticised the Chhattisgarh government for serving a notice to Bastar collector Amit Katariya for receiving the Prime Minister while wearing sunglasses.
The association told CNN-IBN that there is no dress code rule in civil services manual and has called the notice foolish.
The association has said that the a dress code is only applicable when the officer goes to meet the Prime Minister and not the other way round.
The association also defended the officer saying it is difficult to wear formal dress when the temperature is 45 degrees Celsius and said that he was wearing sunglasses to protect his eyes.
The Chhattisgarh government had warned the Collector for not following the protocol and not showing "integrity and devotion" towards duty. "The act ( wearing sunglasses) is in violation of the Section 3 (1) of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968," the notice reads.
The government action came in for criticism by the Congress.
"What's wrong ! It was to beat the sun," said Congress leader and lawyer Vivek Tankha on Kataria being pulled up for wearing sunglasses.
Chief Minister Raman Singh, however, defended the action and said it is a lesson in protocol for the officers.
"It is a common convention that the new collector is warned and made aware about the protocol during the Prime Minister's visit," Singh said.
