'Not A James Bond Sequel': HC Set To Impose 'Heavy Cost' On Ex-AAP MLA Over Plea To Remove Kejriwal As CM
Coming down heavily on the former AAP leader, he said, "We will impose some heavy cost on you now. This is the third petition we are dealing with"

Delhi High Court slammed former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sandeep Kumar for his plea seeking removal of Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister and said it will impose a cost of Rs 50,000 on him. “This is enough, this is the fourth round,” the court said on Wednesday.

Hearing the matter, the bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan said, “Has the Supreme Court or the High Court removed any chief minister till date? Show us.”

Coming down heavily on the former AAP leader, he said, “We will impose some heavy cost on you now. This is the third petition we are dealing with.”

The Acting Chief Justice asked the petitioner to tell how much cost should be imposed on him, adding that this is because “you are insisting on it despite the brother judge warning you”.

“It’s not a James Bond film that we will keep having sequels about. This matter is done and dusted with,” the court said. It further observed that heavy costs will have to be imposed to ensure that such matters don’t occur on a regular basis.

“Governor will take a call on this,” Acting Chief Justice Manmohan said, adding that “please don’t give a political speech over here! Go to parlor or street. Don’t involve us in political thicket.”

The court noted that some costs will be saddled on the petitioner, adding that it will pass an order. “50,000 costs on you. This is enough. This is the fourth round,” the court said sternly.

Further slamming the petition, the court said, “(If you want) please go challenge in Supreme Court, stop making a mockery of this system! It is only because of people like your clients, that we are reduced to a joke.”

Earlier on Monday, the HC bench headed by Justice Subramonium Prasad had said that heavy costs should be imposed on Kumar. He noted that similar petitions had already been disposed of by the division bench headed by ACJ Manmohan.

He remarked that this plea, moved by the former AAP leader, was nothing but a publicity interest petition, Bar and Bench had reported.

Earlier, the court had dismissed two pleas, one filed by Hindu Sena’s president Vishnu Gupta and another by a Delhi resident, Surjit Singh Yadav.

The AAP national convenor — who is in judicial custody in Tihar Jail till April 15 — was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in the excise policy case.

The federal agency, in court, had said that Kejriwal was the “kingpin” and the “key conspirator” of the scam.
