BELGAUM: Though rains have receded in the district, Krishna river is still in spate, crossing danger levels due to heavy rains in South                                  Maharashtra. Three more bridges have submerged taking the total of closed bridges and barrages to 16 in the district.  As the Markandeya is also in spate, the district administration has appealed people residing on the banks of the river in Gokak taluk to move to safer places. As Belgaum and Khanapur taluks received incessant rains for six consecutive days, almost 60 houses collapsed on Sunday taking the total number of collapsed houses to 198.  Since the catchment area of the Koyna is getting continuous rains, Maharashtra has released 1.50 lakh cusecs  of water to Krishna river from Rajapur reservoir including 1,23,834 from Koyna. 97,362 included 77,398 cusecs from the Koyna was             released on Saturday.  As the Krishna is crossing the danger level, Karnataka, to maintain water level has released 1,93,186 cusecs which is highest in the current monsoon from the Alamatti reservoir. 1,42,629 cusecs was the inflow to the reservoir. Alamatti is just 0.63 metre short to turn full as its total capacity of 519.60 metre. As the Krishna is in spate, Kudachi bridge in Raibag taluk has come under water for the third time in the monsoon and the Halatri bridge in Khanapur across the Malaprabha river and Dupdal-Konnur bridge across the Ghataprabha river in Gokak taluk have been submerged. However, the traffic has been diverted from other roads.
