New Delhi: Officers of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) have opposed a proposal to transfer 38 acres of land belonging to Pragati Maidan to Supreme Court of India for building lawyers' chambers.
"There is ample space available around Pragati Maidan which can be considered for accommodating the lawyers," ITPO Officers Assocition said in a memorandum submitted to Commerce Minister Kamal Nath.
The memorandum said that there are vast tracts of land available near IP Depot, NSIC Club, Nangla Manchi area and College of Art, in addition to unutilised railway land along the boundary of Pragati Maidan, which could be considered.
Besides, there is also empty land opposite Supreme Court housing Indian Law Institute, Foreign Correspondents Club and bungalows of senior Government officials which could be utilised for setting up the building.
The delegation included ITPO Officers Association General Secretary Ramesh Chandra, ITPO Employees Union General Secretary BS Tyagi, and ITPO Womens cell representative Aruna Bakshi.
The minister said he would look into the matter, a release by the officers association said.
