No surprise, Facebook rolls out video for Instagram to challenge Vine
Instagram video is available only on Android 4.1 or later and iPhone 3Gs or newer on iOS 5.0 or later.

New Delhi: As speculated, Facebook is adding a video service to its popular photo-sharing app Instagram, following in the heels of Twitter's growing video-sharing app, Vine. If users like it, Facebook's move could propel mobile video sharing into the mainstream.

Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom said users will be able to record 15-second clips by tapping a video icon on the app. They can also apply filters to the videos to add contrast, make them black and white or different hues.

Vine, which launched in January, has 13 million users. Instagram has 130 million users, up from 20 million when Facebook bought the company more than a year ago. Systrom said that 16 billion photographs have been shared on Instagram and the service attracts 1 billion likes everyday.

Instagram has also added its USP, filers, to its new video service. There are at present 13 filers in all.

Systrom also announced a new Cinema feature that stabilises shaky videos. But it is now available only for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

The new video feature on Instagram will be available to Android users on versions 4.1 or later and for iPhone 3GS device or newer running iOS 5.0 or later. Other devices may not be able to upload videos but they can view videos posted by others.
