Hyderabad/New Delhi: There has been no respite from intense heatwave and over 1,100 people have died due to sun-stroke in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada district, temperatures soared to 46 degree Celsius.
According to the MeT department, severe heat wave conditions prevailed on Tuesday over many parts including Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasham and Nellore districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The heat wave conditions would prevail in some parts of Kurnool and Chittoor districts of Rayalaseema, it predicted.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister N Chinna Rajappa said the state government will pay an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of the victims.
The government had issued an alert to doctors to be ready to provide medical assistance to the heat wave-affected people, he said.
Over 67 deaths have been reported in Odisha alone.
Seven people have died in Ahmedabad with the civic body issuing an 'orange alert' expecting the temperatures to shoot upto 43 to 45 degrees Celsius over the next seven
days.
Orange alert is issued when there is a prolonged heat-wave condition.
Sweltering conditions persist in Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana with temperatures hovering around 45 degree Celsius in most of these places.
