Vadodra: The Gujarat government wants all perks enjoyed by Dr Verghese Kurien, fondly known and the milk man withdrawn.
This after three years since Kurien resigned from the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation.
Gujarat government's registrar of cooperatives had written a letter to the milk federation last year seeking withdrawal of perks enjoyed by Kurien.
The board members will be meeting chief minister Narendra Modi to discuss the issue after which a final decision will be taken.
“If there is permission from the state govt and no objection from the zonal office, then we do not have any problem continuing with the perks provided to Kurien sir,” says Board member, Gujarat Co-Operative Milk Marketing Federation,
Madhu Srivastav.
Earlier, the board had decided to let Kurien continue using facilities like a car, drivers and a cook after he resigned in March 2006.
However, Kurien’s family is unhappy, “It's really very sad, we don't need anything from the govt, I’ll take care of my father,” says his daughter Nirmala Kurien.
