CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has declined to issue a direction to the Energy Secretary and the TANGEDCO chairman to levy commercial tariff for the electricity service connection provided to hoardings/digital banners or advertisement banners throughout the State. The first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam also rejected another prayer for a direction to the authorities concerned to implement a GO dated August 20, 2010 by installing compact fluorescent lamps in the place of incandescent lamps.Coimbatore Consumer Voice submitted that lot of electricity was being wasted by giving service connection to dazzling commercial hoardings on the roadside at a comparatively low tariff. If this was regularised by levying commercial tariff, the same would augment the resources of the TANGEDCO.
