New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday issued notices to Kendriya Vidyalalya Sangathan and Superintendent of Police of Kanker in Chhattisgarh over allegations of sexual exploitation of a student by a Central School staffer.

Taking suo-motu cognisance of a media report, the commission has sought their response in two-week's time.

Citing the media report, the NHRC said a peon subjected a seven-year-old student to continuous sexual exploitation in Kendriya Vidyalaya of Kanker following which the child was disinterested in going to school.

"The commission, while issuing notices to the Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and the Superintendent of Police in Kanker, has observed that the contents of the report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child," said an NHRC statement.

According to the media report, the principle of the school did not give a satisfactory response to the parents of the victim student when they approached him with a complaint against the peon. Subsequently, they approached the police and the accused was arrested.
