BANGALORE: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has shut its doors on former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. With this, talk of the former CM, who is said to have threatened to join the NCP if he is not reinstated as CM or made state BJP chief, has reached a premature end.A senior NCP leader admitted to Express that there are efforts by Yeddyurappa to join the party.“At this stage, I can safely say that we will not admit him,” the senior leader, who is perceived to be close to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, said.Asked why they turned Yeddyurappa away, the NCP leader said, “Taking a person like him (Yeddyurappa) will be suicidal. He is facing serious corruption charges and there is no way we can admit him,’’ he said. When contacted, NCP spokesperson Devi Prasad Tripathi neither denied nor confirmed the development. He, however, said people from all parties in Karnataka were in touch with NCP, but refused to name anyone.Yeddyurappa himself was not available for comment.Excise Minister M P Renukacharya, however, categorically stated that there was no question of his leader joining the NCP. “What will we do with the NCP? There are hardly any Maratha votes in Karantaka,’’ he said.A minister in the D V Sadananda Gowda government said politics will change after Sankranthi, hinting that Yeddyurappa could make his next move based on the outcome of his cases and the central leaders’ response.
