Mumbai: The Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to suspended NCP leader Padamsinh Patil in connection with a police complaint filed against him by social activist Anna Hazare alleging that the leader had conspired to murder him.
Patil had approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the complaint.
The Court accepted Patil's plea and granted him the bail on a bond of Rs 10,000.
Hazare had last week filed the complaint with the Parner police in Ahmednagar based on the confessional statement of Parasmal Jain, an accused in the Pawanraje Nimbalkar murder case now in jail.
"Jain in his statement before a magistrate said that Patil had offered him a supari (contract killing sum) to kill me," Hazare said.
Patil, who was arrested by the CBI in June this year for hiring contract killers to murder Congress leader Nimbalkar, who was shot dead on Pune-Mumbai expressway in 2006, was released on bail on September 25.
