Raipur: A Naxal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head, was today arrested in Chhattisgarh's Maoist-hit Bijapur district, police said.
The Naxal cadre, identified as Sodi Ganpat (22), was apprehended by a team of police from his native place Punnur village under Awapalli police station limits, a senior police official said.
Based on specific inputs about the arrival of Ganpat at his village, a team of Awapalli and Basaguda police mobilised towards the spot, located around 450 kms away from state capital Raipur, he said, adding that after surrounding the place, security forces nabbed him.
He was allegedly involved in the attack on a CRPF squad in Sukma last year killing 11 personnel including, a Deputy Commandant and an Assistant Commandant rank officials, in Kachlaram village forests under Kistaram police station limits.
According to the official, the arrested rebel was a prominent member of section-1 under military company-2 of battalion-1 of outlawed CPI (Maoist). After associating with the banned outfit in 2010, Ganpat worked at various capacities member of Chetna Natya Manch (CNM), cultural wing of the Maoists, janmilitia member, Local Guerrilla Squad (LGS) member and later elevated as a member of section-1 under military company-2, he said.
Ganpat has been involved in several ambushes that took place in the region between 2011 and 2014, he said. Some warrants were also pending against him and he was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head. The arrested cadre was being interrogated, the official added.
